We rely on crosstalk to spatially pinpoint the direction of the sound. One solution is to mix and master using headphones, but that is notoriously challenging because we as human beings don’t perceive sound that way. So we are stuck with wherever room we fit all of our music gear into, sacrificing our ability to hear audio clearly. Or maybe you live in an apartment and can’t put acoustic treatment on the walls or just don’t have the money or time to acoustically treat your room.
